Do I still need a tax stamp to buy a suppressor?

Not as of October 9, 2026. Following Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF, ATF announced it is not enforcing the NFA registration, transfer-approval and stamp requirements on suppressors. A suppressor is still a firearm under the Gun Control Act, so you buy it through a licensed dealer with a Form 4473 and a background check, the same as a rifle, and you take it home that day. Can I register my suppressor anyway?

Yes. Registration is optional. Your dealer can file a Form 4 at your request and ATF continues to process them; the tax is $0. Some buyers want the paper because ATF has said enforcement could resume if the court ruling is overturned or the policy is withdrawn, and unregistered items generally cannot be registered later.

What about my state?

ATF’s policy changes nothing in state or local law. Most states allow suppressors; a few restrict or ban them, and some may still expect federal registration. Check your state before you order. Fenix ships suppressors only to dealers holding a special occupational tax (SOT), in states where they are legal.

Can I ship a suppressor directly to my house?

No. Suppressors ship to the SOT dealer you pick at checkout, and you pick up there on a 4473. Phantom brakes, wrenches and other accessories ship straight to you.

How long does it take now?

A few business days for us to ship to your dealer, then the time it takes to run a 4473 at the counter. No approval wait.

What is the Ghost Complete?

The can, an endcap for each caliber you choose, and one Phantom brake in the box, ready to shoot. One caliber is $599 at retail; each added caliber is $50, up to four. Already own a Phantom? Ghost HD or Ghost Ti?

HD is the 4140 steel can built for sustained fire: 800 rounds of belt-fed 5.56 continuous in testing. Ti uses a titanium adaptor body and titanium endcaps on the same 4140 tube and 7075 lock ring, and is burst-rated. Ti is on pre-order and ships in one to two weeks. Same baffle-less core, same calibers, same Phantom mount.

I already own a Ghost. Can I add a caliber?

Yes, two ways. Your dealer can order the caliber endcap from us and install it on your registered Ghost; ATF’s August 28, 2026 guidance treats a replacement or caliber-change part installed on a registered silencer as part of that silencer. Or buy the Apparition, which adds a caliber on its own paperwork. Endcaps are not sold loose to individuals.
